Declared of Tourist Interest since 1993, it originated in 1951.
These processions are a typical manifestation of undoubted beauty and colour, which fit into the “processional” moulds of the Holy Week in the southeast of Spain. The following processions are held:
Palm Sunday:
Liturgical Procession of Las Palmas.
Good Tuesday:
Procession of Capture, where we can see the floats of the Orchard Prayer, Jesus of Medinaceli and Holy Christ of Forgiveness followed by their groups of penitents.
Good Wednesday:
Vía-Crucis procession (Lo Pagán). It´s the only procession along the shores of the Mar Menor. There is a band of bugles and drums, the group of ladies, the group of men and the carried float of Holy Christ of the Mar Menor.
Good Thursday:
Procession of the Encounter of Jesus and his Mother on the way of Sadness.
It starts at 9:00PM and the three floats leave separately but at the same time and meet at Constitución Square (opposite the Parish of apostle San Pedro). From here the three floats part in a single procession and finish at 11:00PM. The floats included are Pious Lady Veronica, Our Father Jesus Nazarene and Holy Virgin of Pain and Suffering.
Good Friday:
Procession of Silence: It leaves at midnight from the Parish Church door. It is a penitentiary Vía-Crucis where hundreds of people go along with Holy Christ of Forgiveness.
Procession of the Holy Burial of Christ: it leaves at 9:15PM from the Parish Church. This procession dates back to 1952 as an organised event, although its origin dates back to the beginning of the 18th century. It used be known as the Procession of the Souls. Here you will see these floats: Holy Grail, Orchard Prayer, Jesus of Medinaceli, apostle San Pedro, Pious Veronica, Our Father Jesus Nazarene, Holy Christ of Forgiveness, Holy Virgin of Piety, Holy Bare Cross, Holy Sepulchre, Saint John the Evangelist and Holy Virgin of Solitude.
Easter Sunday:
Procession of Jesus Resuscitated and encounter with his Holy Mother.
It is held on the morning of Easter Sunday and the thrones of both floats start the route following different itineraries but then meet at one place. It is then when the bells start to ring and there is a tremendous racket of fireworks. The encounter takes place in the crossroads of Dr. Artero Guirao Avenue, opposite Luis Molina Square.
