San Blas pilgrimage

Located amongst ancestral houses and surrounded by thick pine trees stands the hermitage of San Blas, the oldest one in the northern area of the Mar Menor.

The pilgrimage of San Blas is held on February 3rd and started as a pilgrimage in 1980, but the festivity has been held since the 16th century.

This festivity used to include a novena to the saint, then a service, and then the spectators used to gather in small stands to have some wine, "torraos" (toast) and buy a caramel cigar, as well as the typical figure of "Saint Blas", little clay figures that would stay next to the children’s beds to prevent them from catching throat infections.

Nowadays, it is an opportunity for encounter and celebration for all the inhabitants of the area, who wear their best dresses this day and enjoy with their friends and family any of the kinds of rice dishes offered by the rich gastronomy of Murcia. During the festivities of San Blas there are also several activities and competitions to take part in.
