Virgen del Carmen (San Pedro del Pinatar festivities)

Declared as an event of tourist interest since 1965, at 7:00AM on July 16th the festivities of Virgen del Carmen begin with a reveille played by the music band all along the streets of San Pedro del Pinatar.

This lets people know that the festivity has begun. The route ends in Constitución Square, where at 8:00AM there is a service at the Parish Church of apostle San Pedro. An hour later, at 9:00AM, a pilgrimage leaves the church towards the Mar Menor featuring the PATRON SAINT OF SAILORS, where at 10:00AM the festive maritime procession of VIRGEN DEL CARMEN will begin..

Not long before the pilgrimage arrives in Lo Pagán, the leisure and fishing boats arrive, decorated and full of penitents, and start to take their positions to receive the float of the Patron of the Spanish Navy. During the nautical procession there is an offering of carnations in memory of those who lost their lives at sea, and a minute of silence is held.

At 12:00PM there is a service on the square in front of  the fish market and after that the float of VIRGEN DEL CARMEN is carried in a procession until the Lo Pagán Parish Church.

As midnight approaches, around 11:30PM, next to the fish market there is a wonderful display of fireworks as a farewell for the VIRGEN DEL CARMEN, whose float is once again transported to San Pedro del Pinatar. At 1:00AM on July 17th the float of VIRGEN DEL CARMEN enters the village of San Pedro del Pinatar in a solemn but festive celebration.

As it arrives at the Parish Church the NAUTICAL SALVE is sung and there is a great display of fireworks to indicate the end of the festivities of Virgen del Carmen.
